There are currently over 100 unclaimed estates in Leicestershire.

Unclaimed estates occur when someone dies without a will or next of kin. Once an estate has been reported to the Crown as unclaimed, heirs to the estate have 12 years to claim their share.

There has been an increase in unclaimed estates, partly due to government cuts which mean that estates are not checked for existing wills before being added to the list.

MD and founder of Finders, Danny Curran, said that valid wills exist for “approximately one in every five cases currently being advertised by the Government as intestacies. Many relatives are being needlessly traced only to find their expectations are dashed.”
