The world’s richest man’s family tree also includes other very wealthy people, according to an article about Elon Musk in Business Insider.
Musk, the co-founder and CEO of Tesla who has a net worth of $224 billion, is not the only member of his family to launch businesses, make millions or be famous as he has a model mother and two siblings who have also founded companies.
Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, before emigrating to Canada, and eventually, California already had a large immediate family that included two ex-wives, a set of twins and a set of triplets. He has seven children, including two with his ex-partner, the musician and singer song writer, Grimes.
Father ‘genius-level’ IQ
Errol Musk, Musk’s father, is an engineer from South Africa who has a genius level IQ and was reportedly the youngest person to earn a earn a professional engineer’s qualification in South Africa, a 2017 Rolling Stone profile says.
He hit the headlines in 2018 when it came that he had a child with his then 30-year-old former stepdaughter, who he’d known since she was four years old. Musk is currently estranged from his father, describing him as “terrible human being” in an interview with the Rolling Stone.
Maye Musk, Musk’s mother, is a dietitian and model, who has been modelling since the age of 15 and who has appeared on boxes of Special K cereal, the cover of Time magazine and taken part in fashion shows. In 2017, she became a spokesperson for the make-up brand, CoverGirl, at the age of 69.
Divorced in 1979
She and Musk’s father divorced in 1979, when she moved to Canada along with her three children.
Musk’s younger brother is Kimbal Musk, a restaurateur and philanthropist who founded three food companies, The Kitchen Restaurant Group, a non-profit called Big Green, and Square Roots, an urban-farming company.
He founded Zip2 with Elon, selling it for approximately $300 million in 1999 and was an investor in PayPal. He also sits on the board of Tesla and Musk’s other famous company, SpaceX.
Movie streaming
Musk’s younger sister Tosca runs a streaming service called Passionflix. She has been producing films since 2001, and has made more than 50 to date, according to IMDb. The streaming service is for films that have been adapted from romance novels and its investors include her brother Kimbal.
Musk’s cousin, Lyndon Rive is the cofounder of SolarCity, along with his brother Peter. He served as the company’s CEO until the business was acquired by Tesla for $2.6 billion in 2016. He also founded a software company, Everdream, along with his brothers, which was later sold to Dell for $120 million.
Musk’s first wife, Justin, is an author. The couple met when the were both attending Queen’s University in Kingston. The couple’s first son died when he was ten weeks old. The couple went on to have twins and triplets and divorced in 2008.
Tabulah Rily, a British actress, married twice, once in 2010 and divorced two years later. They then remarried in 2013 and divorced once more in 2016.
Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, met Musk on Twitter. The couple had a child in 2020—a son, named X Æ A-Xii, which is partially a reference to a CIA plane nicknamed “Archangel”. They also had a second child through surrogacy, a daughter called Exa Dark Sideræl Musk (but they just call her “Y”). Musk and Grimes split up in 2021.
